Inter RAO launches construction of new power unit at Yuzhnouralsk GRES-2

YUZHNOURALSK. May 14. (Interfax) - Russian energy company Inter RAO UES has started constructing the second power unit at the Yuzhnouralsk State District Power Plant-2 (GRES-2), with a capacity of 400 MW, an Interfax correspondent reported from the ceremony.

CJSC Astomstroyexport is the general contractor for the construction, which will cost over 13 billion rubles. The power unit is slated for commissioning at the end of 2014.

Yuzhnouralsk's first and second power units are comprised of combined-cycle units produced by Siemens AG, the pressure drop coefficient of which is 55.2%. Natural gas serves as the main fuel for the power units, with diesel fuel as the reserve.

The power unit is included in a Russian government approved list of projects implemented as part of power supply agreements.

The Yuzhnouralsk GRES, located in the city of Yuzhnouralsk in the Chelyabinsk region, is part of wholesale generating company OJSC OGK-3 (controlled by Inter RAO). The Yuzhnouralsk GRES-2 project involves building two power units with a capacity of 400 MW each.
