New govt must reform public service - Medvedev

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - The reform of the public service system is one of the main priorities of the new Russian government, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"We need to reform the public service, including through competitions for filling senior federal executive jobs," Medvedev told the new government on Monday.

"All political jobs must be filled in accordance with the Russian government law," he said.

"You are precisely the bearers of political function, both as government members and as public servants holding public offices. All other offices in our country could, in principle, not in one moment, of course, be filled on a competition basis," said Medvedev, adding: "We need to make decisive steps in this direction."
