Deputy PM tells IMF about Ukraine's achievements, reform plans
KYIV. May 21 (Interfax) - Ukraine is keen to continue cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister Valeriy Khoroshkovsky said at a meeting with an IMF mission led by Chris Jarvis in Kyiv on Monday.
"During the discussion of the internal economic situation in Ukraine, the first deputy prime minister emphasized the stability of the national currency, the normal functioning of the banking system and the improvement in the fiscal policy," the government said in a statement.
Ukraine will not increase energy prices for households until it develops a program for helping vulnerable social groups and using energy-saving technologies, Khoroshkovsky said.
"First we shall practice the use of energy-saving technologies, work out a system of social assistance, and after that we shall approach the matter of increasing tariffs to an economically justified level," Khoroshkovsky said.
Ukraine and the IMF must follow the path of economic cooperation, in particular, by resuming the stand by program, the Ukrainian official also said.
