Medvedev asks Sechin to look into creating Rosneft subsidiaries in distant regions

MOSCOW. May 24 (Interfax) - During a selector meeting on preparations for the upcoming heating season and the oil-product situation, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev asked the brand-new head of Rosneft Igor Sechin to look into the setting up of company subsidiaries in distant regions of the country.

"I would like you to work on this subject of subsidiaries in far-away places, particularly in the Trans-Baikal territory, or the building of an oil refinery, but this is already a commercial matter, I don't want to impose anything, because it needs to be considered how big the market there is," Medvedev said.

A representative of the Trans-Baikal territory said earlier in the meeting that oil products in the region are increasing ever more rapidly in price because they have to be transported 2,000 to 2,500 kilometers.

The prime minister also said after talks with Sechin that Rosneft is prepared to consider the idea, but there need to be acceptable commercial conditions set up for the company.
