Avtovaz to present new budget Lada Granta model in German car show

MOSCOW. May 24. (Interfax) - OJSC Avtovaz will present its Lada Granta budget car and Lada Kalina rally at the Auto Mobil International (AMI-2012) car show in Leipzig, Germany in June.

According to head of the design bureau's division for coordinating the preparation and presentation of exhibition samples, Igor Kotikov, Avtovaz has participated in AMI for over ten years. With the exception of the last few years, the Volga-based car producer has continually exhibited the Lada vehicle at the show. The Granta will be shown in a new assembly, Avtovaz said in its corporate publication.

Avtovaz will present the Granta featuring a new-generation ABS, a more modern air conditioner and other options that "expand its technical characteristics and improve usability," the publication said.

Automobile production samples are traditionally also presented by the official Lada distributer in Germany - Lada Automobile GmbH, which has collaborated with Avtovaz for about 20 years. The car dealer will also exhibit the Priora, Kalina and 4x4 models at the Lada booth.

At the moment, Avtovaz is participating in a car show in Kyiv, where its booth area covers 600 square meters. According to AMI-2012's organizers, the rent price for 1 square meter at the Leipzig car show can range anywhere from 55 euro to 133 euro.

Official serial assembly of the Lada Granta commenced on November 29, 2011. This car was created to replace the plant's 'classical' models - the Samara and Kalina sedans. The Granta was designed on the Kalina platform with the participation of representatives of the Renault-Nissan alliance. In the future, the alliance could produce its own brands of automobile for the Russian market on the basis of the Granta model.

This year, Avtovaz could assemble around 150,000 Granta cars, including at its Izh-Auto site. Serial production of the Granta in Izhevsk could be launched in the middle of this year.
