Rally against police arbitrariness under way in St. Petersburg
ST. PETERSBURG. June 3 (Interfax) - Activists of various opposition organizations are rallying in Pionerskaya Square in St. Petersburg against police arbitrariness.
"Up to 500 people have gathered in the square," a participant in the rally, member of the city parliament Maxim Reznik told Interfax on Sunday.
He said they are carrying various placards such as "Down with the police state", "No to corrupt police officers", "Freedom to political prisoners" and others.
"Activists of various organizations speak of vital problems of the state and police from the stage," Reznik said. The main subjects raised at the rally are the clericalization of power and arbitrariness in law enforcement, he added.
He said that the police guarding the rally are not interfering in the developments.
Around 150 people took part in the rally in Pionerskaya Square, a St. Petersburg police spokesperson said.
"About 150 people took part in the rally. No serious public order violations have been registered," the spokesperson said.
