Coal shipments on Russia's railways up 3.6% in Jan-May, petroleum products - 2.9%
MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - Handling on coal on Russia's railways increased by 3.2% year-on-year to 127.7 million in January-May 2012, while shipment of oil and petroleum products increased by 2.9% to 108.1 million tonnes, OJSC Russian Railways (RZD) said on Monday.
Handling of construction cargo increased by 19.3% to 69.5 million tonnes in the five months, ferrous metals - 1.3% to 31.8 million tonnes, industrial commodities and molding materials - 9.8% to 13.2 million tonnes, cement 7% to 13.1 million tonnes, grains and milling materials - 39.9% to 9 million tonnes.
At the same time, railway shipment of iron and manganese ore decreased by 1.1% to 44.6 million tonnes, chemical and mineral fertilizers - 2.8% to 19.5 million tonnes, lumber freight - 9.8% to 16.1 million tonnes, chemicals and sodas - 4.3% to 11.9 million tonnes, non-ferrous ore and sulphur materials - 7.6% to 9.4 million tonnes, ferrous scrap - 9.6% to 6.7 million tonnes, and coke - 3.2% to 5.3 million tonnes.
Shipping in January-May 2012 increased by 3.6% to 522.2 million tonnes while freight turnover rose 6.2% to 924.8 billion tonne-kilometers (including empty railcars, up 5.3% to 1.166 trillion tonne kilometers).
Shipping in May went up by 2.9% to 109.3 million tonnes while freight turnover increased by 3.9% to 187.8 billion tonne kilometers (including empty railcars, up 2.2% to 235 billion tonne kilometers).
