Russia, EU still have differences on trade-economic section of draft new Russia-EU fundamental agreement

ST. PETERSBURG. June 4 (Interfax) - Russia and the EU will continue dialogue on the development of a new fundamental agreement, but the trade-economic section remains a stumbling stone, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Both sides confirmed their interest in the development of a document stating the strategic goals that meet modern requirements. The trade-economic section of the agreement now remains the main stumbling stone," Putin told reporters at the Russia-EU summit in St. Petersburg on Monday.

"We agreed to continue informal consultations to look for mutually acceptable solutions," Putin said.

"We are convinced that the creation of the Customs Union, the Unified Economic Space, and possibly the Eurasian Economic Union in the future is fully compatible with the strengthening of Russia-EU interaction," Putin said.
