Bulgaria offers Russia role in building new Kozloduy NPP unit

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - Bulargia has suggested that Russia take part in the building of a new - seventh - generating unit at the Kozloduy NPP (nuclear power plant), the deputy head of Russia's state nuclear power corporation Rosatom Kirill Komarov said at the Atomexpo-2012 forum.

Rosatom General Director Sergei Kirienko said on Monday that Rosatom prepared technically to play a part in building the new unit, but is not sure the state corporation is ready to invest in it.

At end-March, Bulgaria decided against a project with Russia for the building of country's second NPP at Belene and to acquire the equipment prepared for that facility so that it can be installed at the new Kozloduy unit.

Rosatom expressed doubts about that decision at the time, thinking the seventh Kozloduy unit could take seven to ten years to build.
