U.S. official discusses Syria, Iran in Moscow
MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - U.S. Department of the Treasury's Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen, who is visiting Moscow, has called on the Russian government to support international effort on peaceful transition of power in Syria.
"The under secretary discussed the need for increasing pressure on the Syrian regime, especially in the wake of its recent escalation of violent repression of the Syrian people. He called once more on the Russian government to support international efforts to secure a peaceful transition of power in Syria," the U.S. embassy to Russia said in a statement.
In a series of meetings "Cohen briefed his counterparts on U.S. efforts to enforce U.S. and UN sanctions on Iran as part of international efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon," it reads.
