WASHINGTON. June 6 (Interfax) - The next meeting of the Russian-U.S. Working Group on Civil Society is scheduled to take place in the next few weeks, the U.S. Department of State reported on Wednesday.

The working group is part of the Russian-U.S. presidential commission and is aimed at facilitating dialogue between the two countries governments and NGOs. The group is chaired by Russian Foreign Ministry envoy on human rights, democracy and supremacy of law Konstantin Dolgov and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy Thomas Melia. The previous meeting of the group took place in Washington in February 2012

Melia and Dolgov are currently determining the agenda of the meeting and making preparations for the next meeting of the working group, which will likely be held in Moscow in July 2012, the U.S. Department of State has reported.

The U.S. Department of State said in its release that it is hoping dialogue between the U.S. and Russian governments and people on issues that concern civil society in both countries can be intensified in 2012.

The U.S. Department of State expressed support for the Russian-U.S. civil society partnership program, whose purpose is to create effective mechanisms governing interaction between U.S. and Russian NGOs.
