KYZYL. June 7 (Interfax) - The body of the eighth paratrooper firefighter killed along with seven of his colleagues in fighting a forest fire in the Bai-Taiginsky district of Tuva has been found, the Tuva government press service told Interfax on Thursday.
"The death of the eighth firefighter has been confirmed. A decision has yet to be made on identifying the bodies, and the date has not yet been set," it said.
Injured firefighter Sergei Paderin has been delivered to the Tuva central hospital in Kyzyl by a sanitary aircraft, it said.
A forest fire covering an area of 500 hectares broke out in the Barun-Khemchiksky district of Tuva on Wednesday, and strong wind suddenly turned it into a crown fire. A group of 14 paratrooper firefighters was dropped at the site, and eight of them died in an attempt to control the fire.
