Russia will not assume new WTO obligations - prime minister
MOSCOW. June 7 (Interfax) - Russia has no intention of assuming any new obligations following its entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) other than those agreed upon earlier, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.
"I would like to stress that as we join the WTO, we will abide by previously reached agreements and honor obligations assumed earlier. We will not take up any other or new obligations," he said at a government session on Thursday.
Entry into the WTO fully meets Russia's national interests, Medvedev added.
"That is why we will view our national interests as a priority as we implement different decisions as part of accession to the WTO," he said.
Russia will have to take measures to adapt certain sectors of its economy for the WTO accession terms, Medvedev said.
