Russian Pensioners Party registered under new law
MOSCOW. June 7 (Interfax) - The Russian Pensioners Party has been officially registered, the Justice Ministry said on its website on Thursday.
"The nationwide political Russian Pensioners Party has finalized registration procedures," the ministry said.
Eleven new parties have already received official registration since Russia's most recent law on political parties, dated April 2, 2012, came into force, a ministry spokesman told Interfax earlier.
The registration of the Russian Republican Party was restored.
On April 3, Russia's then President Dmitry Medvedev signed into law a bill simplifying registration procedures for political parties and reducing the number of members required for their registration from 40,000 to 500 people. The law took effect on the following day.
As of June 5, the Justice Ministry registered the organizing committees of 177 parties seeking official registration.
