Lavrov: Iran looks serious about adjusting stable negotiation process
ASTANA. June 7 (Interfax) - Russia believes that Iran is ready for constructive talks with the six world powers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday, summing up the results of talks between Russian and Iranian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
"We have the impression that the Iranian side is serious about its desire to adjust a stable negotiation process. And I hope that the Moscow meeting will be an important step forward along this path. We want to achieve progress on the basis of a concept proposed by Russia and approved by the other negotiating parties: the concept rests on the principles of a phased approach and reciprocity," Lavrov said.
Iran has confirmed within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and as an SCO observer its desire to participate on a broader scale in SCO programs open to observer states, including anti-terrorist, anti-drug, anti-drug and anti-organized crime programs, the Russian minister said.
The SCO activities would be more efficient if observer states took part in these very important programs, he said.
