NAC confirms elimination of six militants and their accomplices in Dagestan

MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - Six militants and their accomplices were killed in a security operation conducted by law enforcement agencies in the town of Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk in Dagestan on Friday, a spokesman for the Russian National Anti-terrorist Committee (NAC) told Interfax.

"One of the militants was neutralized as he tried to break through a police cordon. The other militants were killed in a shootout after they refused to lay down their arms and surrender," the spokesman said.

After the operation was completed at 1:00 p.m., the apartment where the militants had been hiding was examined by explosives experts, he said.

"The dead bodies of six militants and their accomplices have already been found," he said.

None of the civilians and the officers was killed or injured, he said.

A source in Dagestan's law enforcement agencies told Interfax earlier that six militants had been killed during a security operation in Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk.
