Russia ups car imports 16% in 4M - customs

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Russia imported 324,200 cars for $6.682 billion in the first four months of the year versus 280,400 for $5.383 billion in the same period last year, a 15.6% increase, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said.

Car imports from non-Commonwealth of Independent States countries were up 20.8% at 293,800 for $6.453 billion, while imports from CIS countries decreased 18.3% to 30,400 automobiles for $228 million.

Truck imports were up 36.4% at 31,800 for $1 billion in January-April.

Russia exported 33,800 cars for $275.6 million during the four months versus 15,900 for $109.4 million one year prior.

Russia also exported 4,800 trucks (up 41.1% year-on-year) for $130.3 million, with 4,300 of them going to CIS countries for $102.3 million.

Russia mainly imports vehicles from Japan, Germany, Uzbekistan, Korea, Britain, and Ukraine. The country mainly exports automobiles to Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Latvia.

Russia's main exporter of cars is Russia's largest automaker OJSC AvtoVAZ and of trucks OJSC KamAZ . Its main vehicle suppliers are General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Nissan, UZ-Daewoo, and BMW.
