Lenin should be buried in decent place, Mausoleum should become museum

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky believes Vladimir Lenin's body should be buried.

"I have always believed that the body should be buried. I would observe all necessary rituals. Because he was a top official, if an appropriate decision is made, the burial should take place with all relevant state rituals, honors, military salute, and should take place in a decent place," Medinsky told Ekho Moskvy radio on Saturday.

Medinsky said the decision on Lenin's burial has not been made until now because it would have reduced support for the authorities in the elections.

Medinsky said the Mausoleum should be preserved as part of the Red Square ensemble if a decision is made to bury Lenin. "It should stay. It should probably become an open Soviet history museum. It would be a very popular museum with expensive tickets," he said.

"In my view, the fact that Lenin's body is 'hanging' now is bizarre," the minister said.
