Exxon Neftegas to give Sakhalin Region $75 mln for road-building
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. June 14 (Interfax) - The company Exxon Neftegas Ltd., (ENL) the operator of the Sakhalin-1 project, will be providing $75 million over the next three years for the building of the Yuzhno-Skahlinsk-Okha road which will link the south and north of the island.
The latest partnership agreement, which stipulates the provision of these funds, was signed by the region's governor, Alexander Skharshavin and ENL's president, James Taylor, the gubernatorial press service said.
ENL will use the money to build a cross-island highway through the north of Sakhalin, and through the Nogliki and Okha regions.
"For us this is a really important document, that makes possible a new vector for resolving social tasks in the Sakhalin region, allows in large part to improve the lives of Sakhalin residents who live in the notrhtern regions of the island," the press service said.
Figuring that in the near future there will be worked out an optimal scheme for the gasification of the Sakhalin region with the use of Sakhalin-2 gas, the governor said, this means a "new century of cooperation between the regional government and the company ENL."
