Air Force to receive over 1,600 new planes and helicopters within 8 years - Putin

KORENOVSK. (Krasnodar Territory). June 4 (Interfax) - The Russian Air Force will receive over 600 new planes and 1,000 helicopters by 2020, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting focused on preparations for the 100th anniversary of the Air Force.

"I have met with the officers today. They asked me what will happen to aviation. By 2020, the Air Force is to receive 600 planes and 1,000 helicopters with improved combat capabilities".

Large Air Force base with modern infrastructure are being created and airfields are being modernized, Putin said, adding that 28 airfields had been repaired in the past four years.

"Consequently, the production capacity of defense and aircraft-building plants will have to be considerably renewed and expanded and modern pilot training must be ensured," Putin said.
