Proton-M launch from Baikonur postponed for one day - source
BAIKONUR. June 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The launch of a Russian Proton-M carrier rocket with the SES-5 (Sirius-5) satellite from the Baikonur launch pad in Kazakhstan has been postponed from 10:23 p.m. Moscow Time on June 19 to the same time on June 20, a Baikonur source has told Kazakhstan.
"Roscosmos crews are trying to fix a technical problem detected in the rocket," the source said.
On Monday mourning, Baikonur specialists spotted a fault in the rocket's control system.
Sirius-5 was built by Space Systems/Loral (USA) for the SES global satellite communications operator (Luxemburg). It has 36 Ku-band transponders and two C-band transponders, and will provide telecommunication services for northern Europe and southern Africa. The satellite has an operational lifespan of 15 years. It is due to be injected into a geostationary orbit at 4.8 degrees East Longitude.
