Iran should restore trust in exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear program - Putin-Obama statement

LOS CABOS, Mexico. June 19 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama demanded in their joint statement that Tehran fully honor obligations outlined in the UN Security Council's resolution.

Recognizing Iran's right to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes, Russia and U.S. agree that Iran should make serious efforts aimed at restoring international trust in the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear program, the two leaders said.

In order to do so, Tehran ought to fully honor obligations following appropriate resolutions of the UN Security Council and the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as cooperate with the IAEA to rapidly resolve all of the remaining issues, they said.

The shared goal is to secure a step-by-step, mutual and comprehensive solution through negotiations, and Russia and the U.S. are expecting constructive discussions with Iran within the Group of Six mechanism, as well as at the rounds of talks in Moscow on June 18 and June 19, the presidents said.
