Belarus could be offered 2013 CIS chairmanship
MINSK. June 19 (Interfax) - Belarus could take over the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States next year, CIS Executive Committee Chairman and Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told journalists in Minsk on Tuesday.
"Belarus will be offered to become the CIS chair country next year. As far as I know, there are no objections to it," he said.
This issue will be discussed at a CIS summit in Ashgabat in November, Lebedev said.
Belarus is an "active member of the CIS and has a long record of hosting different events," he added.
