Politics to play no role if Duma moves to annul deputy's immunity - lawmaker
MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - A Communist lawmaker, who is accused of calling an unsanctioned rally and committing offenses against police, will not have his party affiliation taken into account by the State Duma if the latter moves to strip him of his parliamentary immunity, the leader of the United Russia majority claimed on Tuesday.
"One's party affiliation has absolutely no role to play. Everyone is equal before the law," Andrei Vorobyov told reporters.
Alexander Bessonov, who held a rally in Rostov-on-Don on December 2 without permission from the authorities, would lose his immunity if law enforcement came up with "impeccable" evidence of him breaking the law, Vorobyov said.
