Russia to deploy network of new Voronezh-type radar stations ahead of schedule
ARMAVIR, Krasnodar territory. June 19 (Interfax) - The command of the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces is determined to deploy a network of new Voronezh-type radar stations ahead of schedule, i.e. earlier than 2020, to ensure uninterrupted radar control of all missiles in dangerous directions, Aerospace Defense Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Oleg Ostapenko said.
"The government armaments program is designed for the period up to 2020. This is the framework within which we are working. Moreover, we will do all we can to reduce this framework," Ostapenko said.
He, however, declined to specify in what other regions of Russia new Voronezh-type radar stations would be deployed.
"We have a long-term program, and the sites for such new stations have already been determined. I will invite you in the near future to visit such a site where we will start working," Ostapenko told journalists.
