Shuvalov expects new interior minister to lessen pressure on businesses
ST. PETERSBURG. June 21 (Interfax) - The Russian government hopes that new Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev will ensure the security of society and businesses, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday.
"We pin big hopes on you. You may have the most difficult mission in the whole government, because both businessmen and average citizens need security," he told Kolokoltsev.
The government "will assist your interaction with businessmen so that they realize that the absence of pressure implies law-abidingness, which is not quite common in Russia so far," Shuvalov said.
He said he did not hear "any negative or pessimistic forecasts" when Kolokoltsev became the Moscow police chief.
"I heard from numerous businessmen and public-sector workers that Moscow would finally solve the security problem, pressure on businesses included," Shuvalov said.
