Armenian parliament approves five-year govt program
YEREVAN. June 21 (Interfax) - The Armenian National Assembly has voted 75 to 47 in favor of the 2012-2017 governmental program, with one abstention.
The program was favored by the Republican Party of Armenia and Orinats Yerikr, which form a parliamentary coalition, and opposed by the opposition parties Prospering Armenia, Dashnaktsutyun, Heritage, and the Armenian National Congress, an Interfax correspondent said.
The program was approved by the Armenian government earlier this week, following which Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian sent it for approval by the National Assembly.
The main expectation from the government in 2012 is to ensure a 7% economic growth, Armenian President Serzh Sargsian said earlier.
"Our goal is to lay a solid foundation for stable and permanent growth, steady decline in poverty and its total elimination in the foreseeable future," the president said.
He also urged his minister to support farmers in crop harvesting, storage and sale.
"The main provision of the program is competitiveness: in economy, services and human resource," head of the parliamentary Commission for fiscal and financial policies and member of the ruling Republican Party Gagik Minasian said earlier. "Provided there are no external shocking risks, the government is ready to complete its programs launched earlier," the parliamentarian said.
