Russia ready to assume key role in food security - Medvedev
RIO DE JANEIRO. June 21 (Interfax) -Russia is ready to play a key role in ensuring global food security to prevent food shortages and excessive price hikes on world food markets, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in his speech at the Rio+20 conference.
"Russia is ready to assume a leading role in addressing yet another global task - food security," he said.
"We must not let food shortages or excessive price hikes on world food prices, which, by the way, is something we have witnessed in recent years", Medvedev remarked.
"Russia with its vast crop areas, the largest in the world, has significant capabilities. We invite all investors, all potential partners to cooperate in this sphere".
This pertains to both investment and technology, Medvedev said.
