London Olympics to be broadcast outdoors in major Russian cities
ST. PETERSBURG. June 22 (Interfax) - Rostelecom has signed an agreement with the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee in St. Petersburg regarding outdoor video streaming of the London 2012 Olympics.
Russia will have 17 sites that will broadcast the Olympics on big screens.
"In London we have to polish and refine the product for the Olympics in Sochi," Rostelecom President Alexander Provotorov said at the signing ceremony Friday.
The broadcast system should be "to international standards" for the Olympics in Sochi, he said.
The Olympics will be broadcast in squares in Moscow, Sochi and various large cities in the regions.
The company plans to broadcast unique materials that will be of interest to Russian fans. A delegation of Rostelecom specialists will be sent to London to improve skills.
Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee President Dmitry Chernyshenko said that for the Sochi Olympics, spectators will not only see the competitions but also the reactions of fans around the world. "People in London and Rio can see themselves, each other, the emotions," he said.
Russia hopes to have more than 25 sites where direct video streaming of the Olympics can be established in time for Sochi 2014.
