Kyrgyz Republic intensifies talks over Customs Union accession

ST. PETERSBURG. June 22 (Interfax) - Talks over Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Customs Union will continue after a break caused by the re-formatting of the Organization's secretariat due to the formation of the Single Economic Union, Nursulu Akhmetova, head of the financial and economic analysis and development monitoring in the Kyrgyz presidential administration, told Interfax on Friday.

A delegation from the Single Economic Union was in Bishkek last week, and "the negotiating process will intensify in the very near future since the parties have already settled many issues," she said.

Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization is a positive factor for Kyrgyzstan, Akhmetova said.

"Kyrgyzstan is already a WTO member, we are already working to harmonize our laws with the Customs Union, and Russia's WTO accession will solve many issues and can make it easier for the republic to join the Customs Union," the official said.
