Pavlodar refinery shut down for maintenance
PAVLODAR. June 25 (Interfax) - On Monday, June 25, JSC Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant- a refinery in the Pavlodar region of northern Kazakhstan - was shut down for planned yearly repairs until July 25, the regional Entrepreneurship and Industry Department told Interfax.
The department said that, as in the previous years, the plant had accumulated a fuel reserve before suspending its operation "to avoid problems on the market".
The refinery's General Director Shukhrat Danbai said earlier that the repairs will cost around 7 billion tenge (roughly $47 billion), 1 billion more than last year. He noted that these are "planned repairs unrelated to the upcoming modernization".
The Pavlodar refinery is part of the national oil and gas company KazMunayGas. It processes oil from West Siberia.
Kazakhstan has another two oil refineries in Shymkent and Atyrau. All are controlled by KazMunayGas.
