Defeater of Nazism Russia can stop bloodshed in Syria, ward off Iran threat - Peres
NETANYA. June 25 (Interfax) - The Israeli leadership is confident that Russia will not allow Iran's nuclear threat to grow, and will stop the bloodshed in Syria.
"I am convinced that Russia, a nation that managed to defeat Nazism, will not allow similar threats - Iran's nuclear threat - to arise again, and will manage to bring an end to the bloodshed in Syria," Israeli President Shimon Peres said in Netanya at a dedication ceremony of a memorial for soldiers killed in World War II, attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Peres also said that Israel is paying tribute to the Russian people and to the people of the former Soviet Union for their self-sacrifice and heroism.
"Glory to the heroes! Glory to the veterans! Glory to the winner nation! Thank you," Peres said in Russian.
