Arrested Kazakh opposition activists accused of coup attempt
ALMATY. June 27 (Interfax) - New charges have been brought against Vladimir Kozlov, leader of the unregistered party Alga, and opposition activist Serik Sapargali, who are under arrest on suspicion of fanning social feud.
Kozlov's wife Alia Turusbekova told Interfax on Wednesday that the opposition activists had been charged with making calls for a forcible change of the country's constitutional system and forcible violation of the territorial integrity of the republic on Tuesday.
Zhanbolat Mamai, leader of the opposition movement Ruh Pen Til, and Bolat Atabayev, a film producer and activist of the unregistered People's Front, who were arrested on June 14, have been charged with the same crimes, Turusbekova said.
Turusbekova also said Muratbek Ketebayev, a leader of the party Alga, and Mukhtar Ablyazov, former head of BTA-Bank, have been charged with the creation and leadership of an organized criminal group of criminal community and participation in a criminal community.
In January 2012, Kozlov and Sapargali were arrested on suspicion of fanning social feud in Zhanaozen, Mangistau region of Kazakhstan. They were transferred to Aktau on May 15.
