Gazprom launches Adler CHPP's first gas turbine unit into test mode
SOCHI. June 28. (Interfax) - Gazprom launched the first gas turbine unit at the Adler Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHPP), built in Sochi in preparation for the 2014 Olympics and Paralympics, into test mode on Thursday, an Interfax correspondent reported from the launch ceremony.
The project is estimated to cost over 23 billion rubles, the head of Gazprom's Special Projects and Studies Division under the Information and Communications Department Matvey Geller said.
Adler's second gas turbine unit is slated for launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
The Adler CHPP is included in a program to build Olympics facilities and to develop Sochi as a mountain resort. It will serve as the key energy facility for Sochi and the surrounding areas by covering over a third of the projected peak energy burden in 2014.
Construction began in September 2009 on an area covering about 10 hectares. Adler's two power units will boast a combined electricity capacity of 360 MW and a heat capacity of 227 Gcal/h. Natural gas will serve as its primary fuel.
