U.S. will not support particular politicians in Georgian election - ambassador

TBILISI. June 28 (Interfax) - The U.S. government will not support Georgian politicians or parties in the parliamentary election in October; it will support the democratic development of Georgia, U.S. Ambassador to Tbilisi John Bass told a Thursday press briefing.

The U.S. programs in Georgia aim to support the people, to deepen the democratic culture and to make sure that every citizen independently chooses one's future, he said.

There will be short and long-term election monitoring missions from the United States. The long-term monitors will come to Georgia in July and prepare a report for the short-term monitors, whose arrival is due a week ahead of the parliamentary election, the diplomat said.
