MTS, Etisalat agree to jointly use networks

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) , one of Russia's leading providers of mobile phone services, and the Middle East's largest telecom operator Etisalat Carrier and Wholesale Services (UAE) have signed an agreement on internetwork cooperation, the Russian company said in a press release.

The agreement calls for using network resources for direct interaction between the networks of MTS and Etisalat. Integration of international network resources will take place in the United Arab Emirates and other countries in the Middle East.

"The goal of director operator cooperation is to provide a high standard of service to MTS subscribers on trips abroad. We value the advantages of the agreement signed with Etisalat and see great prospects for working together," Yevgeny Moskalev, MTS director of relations with operators and roaming partners, was quoted as saying the press release.

The agreement with MTS is a confirmation of Etisalat's strategy of direct connections with the networks of key world operators and adds an important player to our direct networks, which include 120 operators from around the world, Etisalat executive vice president Ali Amiri was reported as saying in the release.

MTS earlier established direct traffic connections with a number of major international operators, including C&W Worldwide, Telia Sonera, TATA Communication, France Telecom (Orange), Telecom Italia Sparkle, T-Systems, Telefonica, iBasis and KPN Company.
