New IMF, World Bank chiefs in Georgia start work

TBILISI. July 2 (Interfax) - The new heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank permanent offices in Georgia began working on July 1, the offices reported.

The new head of the IMF office in Georgia is Azim Sadykov, who formerly worked at the IMF central office in Washington. Sadykov is replacing Eduard Gardner, who led the IMF office since March 2009.

Gardner combined the post of permanent representative and IMF mission head in Georgia, while Sadykov will only hold the post of chief representative, while Mark Griffith, who is currently on a visit to Georgia, will be the mission leader, the IMF office in Tbilisi told Interfax.

The head of the World Bank office in Georgia is the bank's new regional director for the Caucasus, Henry Kerali, who has previously worked in World Bank structures around the world. He places Asad Alam, who held the post since January 2009.
