Second blast goes off at Angarsk underground oil storage facility

IRKUTSK. July 3 (Interfax) - One more explosion went off after a fresh fire broke out in the underground oil storage facility in Angarsk, a spokesman for the regional emergency situations center reported to Interfax from the scene.

"The first fire was put out, but it flared up again and a second explosion went off," he said.

The firefighting effort is continuing. The search for two missing workers is underway.

Reports said earlier that the fire that broke out on Tuesday morning in the Angarsk underground oil storage facility that contained 500 cubic meters of oil, was localized.

One man suffered burns of 70% of the skin and was hospitalized in very serious condition, doctors said. Two others are being searched for. The fire flared up when personnel were checking pressure in a reservoir.

A preliminary investigation has been launched into the incident.

Twenty-five personnel and eight pieces of firefighting equipment are involved in the firefighting effort.

The underground oil reservoir where the fire broke out is located in the premises of the Deltacom wholesale firm. An empty reservoir is near.
