Ground Forces, Airborne Troops to get more new weapons before 2020
SOCHI. July 3 (Interfax) - Russia's Ground Forces and Airborne Troops will receive over 2.6 trillion rubles for equipment before 2020, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"This money is needed to re-equip bases and subdivisions, to fill troops with new hardware. By 2020, its share should be at least 70%," Putin said at a Tuesday meeting, which focused on implementation of the state program for armament of the Ground Forces and Airborne Troops.
"Thus, the Ground Forces alone should receive ten Iskander-M brigade missile systems, nine S300V4 brigade air defense army systems, more than 2,300 tanks, around 2,000 self-propelled artillery systems and weapons, and over 30,000 automobile vehicles," the president said.
Also, there are plans to supply new communications, control and advanced reconnaissance systems, as well as personal protective gear kits for troops, he said.
"All schedules for arms and hardware deliveries must be met in full, on time and at agreed prices, which is very important," the president said.
