Central Kyiv loses cell phone signal

KYIV. July 5 (Interfax) - The cell phone signal has disappeared near the Ukrainian House in Kyiv, where a protest is taking place against the language bill on Thursday night, the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party said.

The signal was gone at around 7 p.m. and has not reappeared yet, said Yuriy Odarchenko, a parliamentarian from the BYuT-Batkivshchyna faction.

The networks of all mobile operators are not working in European Square, the party said.

This was done deliberately to stop protestors from coordinating their actions, Odarchenko said. Besides, it is possible that the authorities are trying to make people leave sooner, because they cannot get in touch with the friends and families, he added.

People strolling in central Kyiv has lost the signal on their mobile phones, an Interfax correspondent said. Many of them are looking at the phones, perplexed, not understanding that is going on with the mobile communication.
