Inter-parliamentary relations to top agenda during Naryshkin's visit to Azerbaijan

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin is due to pay a formal visit to Azerbaijan on July 7-9.

"The visit's program includes bilateral meetings with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, Parliament Speaker Oktai Asadov, and chief of the presidential administration Ramiz Mekhtiyev. Particular focus will be on development of inter-parliamentary relations between Russia and Azerbaijan," the State Duma said in a statement obtained by Interfax on Friday.

Naryshkin will visit the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, speak before alumni of the Baku Slavic University and award diplomas to graduates of the Moscow Lomonosov State University's branch in Baku, the statement said.

On the eve of this visit, the State Duma Committee for CIS and Russian Expatriates and the Committee on International Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations of the Azeri Milli Majlis (Parliament) held a joint session in the Azeri capital of Baku to discuss the role of the two countries' parliaments in addressing the issues concerning bilateral cooperation and European politics.
