Syria opposition leaders reject foreign intervention idea - ministry

MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - A high-level delegation of Syria's opposition Democratic Front led by human rights activist Michel Kilo "stressed non-acceptance of foreign intervention" in the Syrian domestic political conflict during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Kilo and members of the Democratic Front leadership accompanying him expressed understanding of the Russian position and gratitude for [Russia's] sincere efforts to help put an immediate end to violence, normalize the situation and have burning issues on the Syrian national agenda tackled by the Syrians themselves," the ministry said in a statement.

"They stressed non-acceptance of foreign intervention and the need for civil peace, interreligious harmony, and respect for the Syrians' lawful desire for a free democratic future for the country," it said.
