Abducted S. Ossetian official found dead

TSKHINVALI. July 10 (Interfax) - Police have found the dead body of Roland Chitayev, the director of the Investigative Department of the South Ossetian Prosecutor General's Office, who was abducted in the republic's capital Tskhinvali on Monday evening, Prosecutor General Merab Chigoyev told Interfax.

Chitayev was found dead in the village of Vanat in the Tskhinvali district, he said.

He is believed to have died after being shot point blank.

"Two persons were detained on suspicion of committing this crime. An investigation is under way," Chigoyev said.

Chitayev was abducted from his own house late on July 9.
