Georgia wants to take part in Pentagon tenders
TBILISI. July 10 (Interfax) - Georgia could take part in a U.S. Department of Defense tender for goods and food products for the troops stationed in Afghanistan.
"Each year the U.S. Defense Department spends $47 billion to buy various goods and food products, and this year Georgia has been granted a priority opportunity to take part in a tender announced by the Pentagon," Georgian Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili told reporters on Tuesday.
"It is a huge market, and Georgia can enter it," he said.
Each year the United States spends around $4 billion to buy food products for their troops in Afghanistan, the prime minister recalled. Georgia could supply certain food products there, Merabishvili said.
U.S. military logistics officials are attending a two-day symposium in Tbilisi to tell Georgian businessmen about the conditions of the tender and requirements for food products purchased by the Pentagon.
The event is attended by about 120 Georgian companies. Some of them have exhibited their products - mineral water and natural fruit juices - specifically for U.S. logistics officials in the hall at Radisson Hotel where the symposium is taking place.
