Ukraine, Russia sign package of agreements in Yalta
KYIV. July 13 (Interfax) - The fifth session of the Ukrainian-Russian Interstate Commission, which closed in Yalta on Thursday, was crowned by the signing of a package of agreements and a joint declaration in a ceremony, attended by Ukrainian and Russian presidents Viktor Yanukovych and Vladimir Putin.
"The joint statement makes special mention of the role the commission has been playing in promoting versatile bilateral interaction, and also its work to negotiate agreements in various practical cooperation areas. It also lists the main results of the work done today and reaffirms the parties' desire to permanently promote the constructive political dialog and expand cooperation in all current and prospective fields," the Ukrainian presidential press service reported on Thursday.
Among the agreements signed are the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the prevention of emergency situations and fires, and on the work to deal with the aftermath in places where the Russian Black Sea Fleet is based in Ukraine; an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in aerial search and rescue operations, and an intergovernmental protocol amending the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the attestation of high-skilled research and teaching personnel of June 21 2002.
Russia and Ukraine also signed an intergovernmental memorandum on cooperation in fighting terrorism, which aims to perfect legal agreements between the two countries' law enforcement and special services in dealing with new challenges and threats.
Also, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry and the Russian Economic Development Ministry.
The Memorandum of Integration and Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, signed by the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry and Russia's state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, documents the agreement to fulfill a plan to explore the investment appeal of assets in the energy machine-building and nuclear fuel cycle sectors, and mechanisms of their integration on a parity basis.
Ukraine's State Agency for Science, Innovation and Informatics and Russia's Federal Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Service signed a memorandum on scientific and technical cooperation in Antarctica.
Among the other agreements signed is the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Ukrainian State Registration Service and Russia's Federal State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography Service.
