Uzbekistan cuts electricity output 1.7% in H1 2012
TASHKENT. July 17. (Interfax) - Uzbekistan reduced electricity production 1.7% year-on-year to 26.101 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) in the first half of 2012, the State Statistics Committee reported.
Uzbek power stations transferred 10.026 million Gcal of heat to the population during the six months, a 0.5% increase over H1 2011.
Coal production dropped 18.4% to 1.336 million tonnes.
Last year, the country boosted power generation 1.3% to 52.416 billion kWh, heat output 0.9% to 18.515 million Gcal and coal production 5.9% to 3.844 million tonnes.
Over 98% of the electricity generated in Uzbekistan is produced at state-owned Uzbekenergo's power stations. OJSC Uzbekugol, which is part of Uzbekenergo, accounts for 90% of the country's coal output.
