Bill on foreign agent mass media proposed to State Duma
MOSCOW. July 18 (Interfax) - A bill was proposed to the State Duma on Wednesday, compelling Russian media outlets funded or receiving grants from abroad to declare this fact, the author of the amendments to the federal law on mass media, United Russia faction member Yevgeny Fyodorov, told Interfax.
"This bill has been proposed in continuation of this work that we started, having passed the bill on NGOs-foreign agents," Fyodorov said.
Effectively, the decision to extend the rules proposed with respect to nongovernmental organizations to mass media is due to the understanding of the fact that foreign money finance "the manipulation not only through NGOs but also - and maybe even to a greater extent - through mass media" in the country's political space, he said.
