Rosneft to further study lithology of Val Shatsky's southern part by end-year
MOSCOW. July 18. (Interfax) - RN-Exploration is accrediting a tender to analyze terrestrial outcrops in the Black Sea region aimed at forecasting the lithological structure of the southern part of the Val Shatsky block (South Black Sea licensed section).
According to Rosneft , work will be carried out in August-December of this year. The company is repeating its announcement of the tender.
The contractor will be tasked with conducting a geological expedition to study outcrops of carbonate rock, to carry out a lithological and sedimentological analysis of carbonate rocks in the Jurassic-Cretaceous complex and deposits from the Eocene-Paleocene age, and forecast the sedimentary cross-section at Val Shatsky.
Documents have to be submitted by July 25.
Rosneft and U.S. company Chevron previously drilled a dry well at the neighboring West Black Sea licensed section, which is the central part of Val Shatsky. The companies detected magnetic anomalies at the section, which evidenced volcanic formations in the rocks. Volcanic rocks have low permeability, and organic matter does not accumulate in them, which complicates reservoir formation. In consequence, Chevron withdrew from the project. Rosneft is currently planning to continue work at Val Shatsky with Italy's Eni.
