Russia will not change position on Syria after Damascus attack - ministry
MOSCOW. July 18 (Interfax) - Russia will still oppose the United Nations Security Council's draft resolution on Syria if it contains a reference to Chapter 7 of the UN Charter that allows foreign intervention, despite the terrorist attack that occurred in Damascus on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said.
"Our position is principled," he said on Wednesday, responding to a question posed by Interfax.
"If our Western partners explained how they intend to use this reference to Chapter 7 against those who commit terrorist attacks, we would be grateful for such explanations," the diplomat said.
On Wednesday, British Foreign Secretary William Hague urged the UN Security Council to approve the tough resolution on Syria in the wake of recent events, including the attack in Damascus.
