Dubai drops charges against Russian MP Delimkhanov - Senator Sabsabi
GROZNY. July 19 (Interfax) - The Dubai Prosecutor General's Office has cleared Russian State Duma member Adam Delimkhanov of all charges, Senator Ziyad Sabsabi told journalists on Thursday.
Delimkhanov was put on the wanted list by Interpol at the request of the Dubai Prosecutor General's Office in 2009.
"I am holding a copy of the document signed by the chief of the Prosecutor General's Office in Dubai that informs the emirate's Criminal Investigation Department of its decision to stop the search after Interpol and Dubai's law enforcement agencies analyzed and reviewed the case," Sabsabi, who represented Delimkhanov's interests in Dubai, said.
Delimkhanov was notified of the decision as well, he said.
"The Prosecutor General's Office and courts of Dubai strictly obeyed all requirements of the emirate's legislation and the norms of the country's Sharia law as they considered the possibility of dropping charges [against Delimkhanov]," he said.
Russian parliamentarian Delimkhanov was placed on the international wanted list by Dubai police on April 27, 2009, after being accused of possible involvement in the murder of former Chechen Vostok elite battalion commander Sulim Yamadayev.
Yamadayev was attacked in Dubai on March 28, 2009. He went into a coma and subsequently died. Iranian citizen Mehdi Lornia and Tajik citizen Maksudzhon Ismatov were convicted over Yamadayev's killing and were sentenced to 25 years in prison each.
